It has been a busy month for the garden club. At our July meeting Shirley Dance talked to us about roses.
We learned lots about propagating, pruning and generally how to look after them.
We had our community dinner at the Blue Fin where a lot of members and their families got together.
It was a great chance to have a meal and a catch up and raise some money for our club at the same time.
Then members Chattur and Maya Singh opened their garden for members.
Although not a large garden it is packed with interesting plants and veges, quite a few in pots. It was a lovely afternoon and members enjoyed a chat with afternoon tea.
Our August meeting will be our AGM, followed by by Sally Moore talking about herbs and salvias.
Salvias are such a pretty plant and great for filling spaces in your garden. They come a great variety of colours and sizes.
Those of you interested in orchids should head for the Qld Orchid Society Spring Show at the Belmont Rifle Range on the weekend of 23-24 August.
It is always a great display – great to look even if you don’t want to buy.
In late June our bus trip headed to the Scenic Rim, visiting the Emu Farm at Marburg where we learned about the benefits of Emu Oil and other emu products.
Needless to say the queue at the shop was quite long.
This was followed by lunch at the Harrisville Hotel then a trip to a nursery on the way home (where we managed to spend more money).
We are now looking forward to our September bus trip to a couple of great gardens plus lunch at the Beenleigh RSL.
It will be another great day out.
