Forest Lake State High School has launched its 25th anniversary celebrations by welcoming former students, staff and families back to the campus.
The school’s Open Day on 13 June brought together generations of the Forest Lake community to share memories, revisit the campus and celebrate the school’s development since it opened in 2001.
Principal Sally Hawkes said the occasion highlighted the enduring connection many former students and staff still had with the school.
“It was a wonderful day to reconnect and share memories with our past students and staff, who continue to be an important part of the Forest Lake SHS story and our school community,” Mrs Hawkes said.
Music played a major role in the celebrations, with current and former performers returning for the event.
Acts included Hazy, Spotlights in Space, the school’s Jazz Band and Drumline, providing what the school described as the soundtrack to the anniversary gathering.
Mrs Hawkes said the participation of former students reflected a strong sense of belonging that had continued beyond their time at the school.
“Their ongoing connection to our school is a testament to the strong sense of belonging and pride that exists within our community,” she said.
The event also reunited three current and former school principals: Heather Varcin, who led the school from 2001 to 2014; Denise Kostowski, who served from 2017 to 2023; and current principal Sally Hawkes, who began in the role in 2023.
Forest Lake State High School said the Open Day was ultimately defined by the coming together of students, staff and families through shared experiences, memories and school pride.
The anniversary celebrations continue with the school’s 25-year gala dinner on 25 July.
