A Community Life Uniting Church Op Shop Garage Sale has raised more than $3000.
From their front car park at 528 Waterford Road, Ellen Grove, the event brought people together, raising vital funds to support the various ministries on site, including welfare support for those doing it tough.
As the gates opened, visitors were greeted with warm smiles from Rev Emma Nicholls and her team of volunteers.
People sifted through rows made up of hundreds of items which included furniture, sporting equipment, household goods, books, toys, suitcases, and more.
Many treasures were found – from seasoned pickers and collectors, to the curious passerby.
Despite the stormy weather and hail the night before, volunteers worked tirelessly to set up.
Their dedication paid off, as crowds began arriving from as early as 6am — rugged up against the morning chill but full of warmth and generosity.
The atmosphere quickly filled with laughter, conversation, and a strong sense of community spirit.
Locals from all walks of life joined in the fun, many catching up over a hot drink at the church’s onsite coffee shop, Chatz Coffee & Cake.
The excitement extended online, with many reaching out via Facebook to learn more about the church and garage sale.
One person, experiencing homelessness, asked if the church could support him. The answer was simple: “Come and see the people at Community Life.”
What made the day even more special was that those items destined to landfill or sitting unused found new home.
“This church is known not just for giving, but for being a place where everyone feels welcome, These funds are vital for us to continue the meaningful work we do in our community,” Reverend Nicholls said.
“More than just a fundraiser, the garage sale was a celebration of unity, generosity, and sustainability.
“A heartfelt thank you goes out to the dedicated volunteers, donors, and supporters who made the day such a success.
“Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the next one in a few months.”
