By Councillor Charles Strunk
August is always an exciting month in Brisbane, especially with the arrival of the Ekka at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
As the winter temperatures begin to warm again, it was great to see so much activity and events in our community and beyond.
The Ekka Fun Day is back at Grand Avenue State School on 13 August. I am proud to once again be a sponsor of this event which will be a great opportunity for kids and families who may not be able to make it to the Brisbane Showgrounds and give them a chance to experience the sights and sounds of the Ekka.
Father’s Day comes early in September on Sunday 7th, and if you’re looking for a gift for dad, consider dropping by the Forest Lake Markets held each month on the 2nd Friday night (8 August) from 5pm-8pm at the Forest Lake Sports Fields.
The markets offer a wide variety of gift stalls including arts and crafts, food, and drinks, and much more. If you would like to chat about local issues, I have an information stand at the markets each month, so feel free to stop by and say hello.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Your Choice Support, a wonderful local Forest Lake service supporting young adults with disabilities in a home environment.
I was pleased to donate to their Biggest Morning Tea activity with a winter hamper. They raised over $800 for Cancer Council Qld.
The residents and staff of this service are inspiring, and it is fantastic to see them participating in all sorts of community activities like charity fundraising and community barbecues.
