It’s been a while since we shared our adventures at Richlands – Forest Lake Scout Group, so we have lots to share.
Our Joeys spent all of term 2 exploring their “Under the Sea” themed activities.
Along with a visit to Hologram Zoo, they enjoyed a ‘Going Fishing’ night, a movie night watching Nemo, finding out fun facts about the coral reef and making their own coral craft, making a mosaic turtle using recycled items and invited the Cubs to join them for an “Under the Sea” disco to celebrate the end of the term.
Their explorations have earned them an Earth Tribe – Tide Turners Plastic badge – one of the special badges.
During the holidays we also enjoyed a fun day out at Snow 4 Kids and completed our Outdoor Adventure Skills – Alpine Grade 1 badges.
During term 3 the Joey Scouts have chosen to work toward another Earth Tribe badge (conservation) studying bees and how to protect pollinators.
I can’t wait to see what happens here.
Our Scout section was super busy during the last of term 2.
Koko challenged them to design and race cars made out of cardboard.
The cars had to be big enough to fit all three team members and race without the car falling apart.
This was a great STEM challenge and there were some creative entries.
Koko also instructed the Scouts in how to pack for a hike.
Karl initiated an astronomy night where the scouts spent some time looking at different stars and constellations.
Summah decided it was cold enough to warrant making smores over coals, and they also spent a night turning branches into hiking staves.
This was great timing as some of the Scouts headed out during the first week of the holidays to the Bunya Mountains for a very chilly three-day hike in wet, single-digit temperature conditions.
The team led by Koko and including Stanley, Karl and Shiloh showed amazing resilience and even managed to maintain good spirits in extremely trying conditions.
BRAVO team – as a result Koko completed her stage 5 Bushwalk, Stanley and Karl completed stage 4 Bushwalk and Shiloh completed his first bushwalking badge.
Koko also completed a Scout Leadership/Personal Development course during term 2, before completing her Lifesaving Bronze Star.
While not a Scout badge, this is a great achievement and allowed Koko to meet the requirements for her Stage 4 Aquatic-Lifesaving badge.
The Scouts then took some time to unwind and recover before returning for a planning meeting at the beginning of term 3.
There is always something happening, and lots more adventures to enjoy at Richlands – Forest Lake Scout Group. We are happy to accept new members all year around from the ages of 5-25. Check out our Facebook page, or contact Rosella on 0402 308 182.
