A full house at the inaugural Lighthouse Community Connections multicultural fundraising dinner last month brought together long-time locals, new residents and supporters from across the region.
The evening raised essential funds for renovations and new equipment so Lighthouse can continue as a place of connection and support.
The atmosphere throughout the night was warm and uplifting. The program opened with a performance by emerging violinist Kate Stone, accompanied by pianist Sarah Chuey.
Kate has played for the Queensland Conservatorium and is currently the inaugural principal Second Violin of the Logan City Symphony Orchestra.
She has also performed with the Queensland Ballet Academy, in the Brisbane Festival with Opera Queensland and on television for her street performances.
International performer Merryn Holder, whose extensive career spans television, theatre and stage, performed later in the night.
She has supported Ray Charles, Grace Jones and James Brown.
Cultural and ministry performances by the HCB Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry and HYPC dancers added to the program, reflecting the diversity and unity of the community.
Throughout the event, volunteers worked across various roles—serving meals, coordinating raffles, assisting with the program and helping with setup and pack-down—ensuring everything ran smoothly.
During the evening, Pastor Joshua Aveia, who has been with the Lighthouse thanked everyone for attending throughout the night.
“This has always been more than a building to me. It is a place to worship, a place where community can come together, a place to support our most vulnerable, and a place where people can build friendships,” he said.
“Every day we welcome new face. Some are second or third-generation locals, and others are new to our area thanks to the new developments. We all have a home.
“We called it the lighthouse so those around who want a chat can follow the light here. It is wonderful to see this place flourish year after year.”
Forest Lake local and dedicated volunteer Pastor Pat said: “It was great to see so many local sponsors get on board.”
As the Christmas season approaches, Lighthouse Community Connections is preparing to host a free community lunch and a range of end-of-year activities.
Residents can attend, enjoy a meal or share a cuppa, and celebrate the festive spirit.
