This month, Hub Community Projects and Brisbane Festival bring rhythm, movement, and connection to Inala.
As part of the wider “Communities Workshop Program,” the HUB Neighbourhood Centre will host free weekly dance workshops open to all ages, experiences, and bodies.
Running for six weeks starting Wednesday 6 August from 3.30pm-5.30pm, the program is led by the inclusive and high-energy dance company Bring A Plate.
Bring A Plate has been breaking boundaries in dance since 2017.
Their mission is to celebrate diversity and reshape how we think about dance—who can dance, how we dance, and where we do it.
With values rooted in community, inclusion, play, agency, and place, these workshops promise not just movement, but meaningful connection.
The program will wrap up in style with a community celebration of dance on 24 September at the Inala Neighbourhood Centre.
These workshops are part of Brisbane Festival’s Communities Workshop Program, supported by the Queensland Government.
This initiative connects local artists with neighbourhood centres across Brisbane, making the arts more accessible through dance, music, visual arts, songwriting, and more.
Also happening at the HUB Neighbourhood Centre is the much-loved Wonderful Women’s Group — a weekly gathering for women in Inala to connect, share stories, and support one another.
Held during the school term, the group offers more than just conversation.
Each session includes a healthy, homemade lunch prepared by volunteers—many of whom cook dishes from their own cultures. Recent menus have included vegetarian spring rolls and Vietnamese fried rice, turning lunch into a celebration of culture and community.
For newly arrived women in Australia, this group can be a lifeline—offering connection, reducing isolation, and creating a space where everyone feels welcome.
